Middleware Services for Trusted Coordination

چکیده

As more interactions are migrating to use Internet based communications, the level of dependence on external parties is increasing. This raises complex issues regarding which resources, services and agents you can trust. Interactions could be consumer/producer oriented where one particular organisation utilises a service provided by another. Furthermore it could be of a more collaborative nature where multiple parties working towards a common goal, require mechanisms for accessing each others information. Trusted coordination ensures that these interactions can be trusted even if there is mutual distrust present between parties. Distributed system construction is now moving towards the use of component oriented middleware. Current component middleware has limited provision for trust management and no specific facilities for coordinating collaborative work. This document describes on going research work on developing a component middleware for applications requiring trusted

Engineering Attestable Services (short paper)

Web services require complex middleware in order to communicate using XML standards. However, this software increases vulnerability to runtime attack and makes remote attestation difficult. We propose to solve this problem by dividing services onto two platforms, an untrusted front-end, implementing the middleware, and a trustworthy back-end with a minimal trusted computing base.

Secure Management of Distributed Collaboration Systems

Our goal is to construct secure distributed collaboration systems by coupling their high-level specifications with a policy-driven middleware. This paper addresses three problems related to decentralized management of collaboration systems by a middleware. To correctly enforce security and coordination policies, the middleware determines which nodes can be trusted for enforcing policies related...

Composition of Coordinated Web Services

The Web services architecture defines separate specifications for the composition and the coordination of Web services. BPEL is a language for creating service compositions in the form of business processes, whereas the WS-Coordination framework defines coordination protocols for distributed activities. In this paper, we investigate the combination of these two aspects to compose coordinated We...

TRIUMF: A Trusted Middleware for Fault-tolerant Secure Collaborative Computing

A collaboration is an activity conducted by two or more parties to achieve a common goal. Business collaborations are becoming an essential part of emerging business models. Organizations, however, are unable to reap true benefits of collaborations because of their security and privacy concerns. TRIUMF, the Trusted Middleware for Fault-tolerant secure collaborative computing, is aimed at enabli...

Composing Web Services Specifications: Experiences in Implementing Policy-Driven Transactional Processes

The Web Services architecture defines various specifications that applications may wish to use in combination. In this paper, we investigate the composition of the Web services specifications for business process execution (BPEL) and transactional coordination (WS-Coordination). We report on our experience in implementing a policy-driven model to declaratively program transactional processes an...
